This was the required book for a beginning photography class I'm taking at my local junior college. It's a good book for a beginning photographer and explains all of the basics of a camera and its parts, how to take photos and how to develop them. It has one chapter somewhat dedicated to digital photography so if you really want to learn more about the digital aspect you will need to check out some other titles. Ok, now students beware if you were required to get this book for your class and will be taking the online quizzes you will need an Access Code. If you're lucky and your school is generous then they will provide one to you. complete ripoff in my opinion. I don't know, maybe I'm just old school, but didn't taking tests in school use to be FREE??? The "greedy" fee from the publisher for the access code is the only reason for the lower rating, besides that the book is good.
The book is very helpful for the novice photographer. It was an assigned book in a photography class I took for the summer. I thought it would be a ho-hum book but it was better than I thought. The book includes photo examples of exposures and setting which is very helpful. If you are just starting out this book should be just what you need. Even if you have been taking good pictures for sometime by pure luck you will be able to fine tune your skills with the help of this book. This book is great for begining photographers. It goes over all the important aspects of photography and is very easy to follow. I love the visual aid. It's a great book to go back to when you forget how to load film in a camera or just picking up basic f-stop and shutter combinations for varioius situations. Loved how fast the book got here and excited to use it during my class. I've flipped through it a bit and it looks like it has some very useful information about my course. It came in great condition as well, with no dents or tears from shipping.
Writing a review to get this off my to-be-reviewed list, but I actually never read it. Thought it might help me pass the Certified Professional Photographer written exam, but I passed on my first sitting after using some flashcards. Will probably pass along to a budding young photographer, as it looks like a pretty good book. I have not finished the text yet, since it was purchased for a class I am now taking. We are half way through the program and so far the chapters are very informative and easy to follow. Good explanations and photos to demonstrate what they are trying to say. If you are a novice, this is a good book to get. I think that this book serves its purpose. It has been an excellent addition to lectures. It offers visual examples of basic photography lessons. This book is worth owning, even if you feel competent with photography.
